Credit cards that pay 2% back on all purchases

0

The holy grail of cash rewards cards are those that pay two percent on all purchases. We are not talking about rotating categories, like the 5% cards. And we’re not talking about capped rewards (5% rotating category cards cap the rewards you can earn). We are talking about real 2% cash back credit card offers.

I use such a card almost every day, but I knew there were more. So I did some research, and my conclusions are below. One key thing to keep in mind is that with any cards that pay two percent cash back, points, or miles, there is always a catch. As an example, the card I use (listed first below) pays 2%, but only if you use the rewards to travel.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card – My main credit card. I also use the business card version, called Capital One Spark Miles for Business. With these cards, you earn 2 miles for every dollar spent. If you use the miles to travel, they’re worth $ 0.01 each, making the card a true two percent card. You can earn 5X on hotels and car rentals when you book through Capital One Travel.

If, however, you are using the miles for anything other than travel, the miles are worth half of that. My family and I travel enough to use all of our miles on the trip. And now the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers 60,000 bonus miles when you spend $ 3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

The beauty of this card is the way you use the miles. We book travel through various services and pay with our Venture Card. Once the fee has been billed to our account, we simply log into Capital One and redeem miles to pay for the trip.

Capital One lists qualified travel expenses, and paying them with miles is as easy as checking a box. We paid for everything from plane tickets and hotels to car rentals.

Discover it® Cash Back – Not a standard 2% cash back on any card type, Discover it® Cash Back does what you might expect. All cash back rewards earned in the first year match your card anniversary date. This means that the 1% you earn on all purchases becomes 2%, and the 5% you earn on certain categories each quarter becomes 10%. For a first year bonus… it’s terribly solid.

This card also features an introductory 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 14 months. There is no annual fee and for a limited time, new cardholders can take advantage of Social Security alerts. When you sign up, Discover will monitor your Social Security number on thousands of risky websites. If a match should appear, you will be immediately notified of the location of your Social Security number.

A free monthly FICO credit score is also included.

Signature Alliant Cashback Visa® credit card – You are not going to find a cash back credit card with a higher daily rewards program. Quite simply impossible. This card offers cardholders a flat cash back rate of 2.5% on every purchase. If that’s not a good enough reason to own this credit card, it also comes with a low 3% cash advance fee and doesn’t charge any overseas transaction fees.

The only immediate downside to owning the Alliant Cashback Visa® Signature credit card is the annual fee of $ 99; but there is no annual membership fee for year # 1.

The catch is, you have to be a member of the Alliant Credit Union to be approved for that credit card. While it might sound difficult, it’s actually quite straightforward. Here are the membership terms:

  • Anyone willing to make a one-time donation of $ 10 to the Foster Care to Success charity.
  • An employee or retiree of an eligible business.
  • A member of an eligible organization.
  • An immediate family member of an existing Alliant member.
  • Anyone living or working in an eligible Chicagoland community.

Citi® Double Cash Card – One of the few 2% cash back credit cards available today, the Citi® Double Cash card offers 1% cash back when you buy and an additional 1% cash back when you pay . An introductory 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months (3% balance transfer fee) is also included. Unfortunately, balance transfers do not count toward your cash back rates. There is no annual fee.

The Citi® Double Cash card has no cash back limit and does not have to be reached. Every purchase you make is counted the same and earns you the same cashback rate. Citi also has a pretty cool feature called Price Rewind. When you make a purchase using an eligible Citi card (like Double Cash), they will search for the same product. If they (or you) find the product you purchased cheaper, you may be refunded the price difference.

Finally, you will also have access to the Citi Price Pass. This feature gives you the ability to purchase hard-to-find tickets for thousands of different events, around the world.

Visa Signature® Fidelity® Rewards card – This cash back card offers card members a flat cash back rate of 2% in the form of reward points. Points never expire and there is never a limit on how many you can earn. Rewards are deposited into your Fidelity account, which is required to get the card. Six different Fidelity accounts are eligible to have the Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® card and they are:

  1. Brokerage account
  2. loyalty® Cash management account
  3. Fidelity Managed 529 Education Savings Plan
  4. Retirement account
  5. Loyalty Go® Account
  6. Loyalty charity® Donation account®

There is no annual fee to own the Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® card. There are also minimal benefits beyond the 2% cash back rate; but what else are you looking for in a great cash back credit card?
