MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Mandaue City received the first installment of their financial aid worth P3,000 on Friday, May 13.

The city government distributed the financial aid to the cultural and sports complex in the city of Mandaue.

Julia Ballesteros, deputy city treasurer, said people with disabilities in 12 barangays can receive the aid today while those in other barangays will receive it on Saturday, May 14.

Ballesteros said more than 14 million pesos had been budgeted for the first tranche of cash assistance for nearly 5,000 people with disabilities. They receive an annual aid of 6,000 pesos.

The city’s assistant treasurer said that due to the decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases, distribution is no longer going door-to-door.

In addition, the other financial aid for partially affected Odette families worth P3,000, the first installment for the elderly worth P4,000 and the fuel subsidy of P5,000 for drivers and legitimate tricycle operators will be the next to be distributed.

Ballesteros, however, said that as she recalled, they have yet to receive salaries for other assists.

She said, however, that once payslips are submitted by the city’s services and social welfare, they can immediately make a cash advance.

“Dali ra man kaayo na ang paccash advance basta naa ang payrolls, mga 1 day dili gale makaabot,” Ballesteros said.

Earlier, Atty. Jamaal James Calipayan, the city administrator, said he aimed to distribute all aid during this month.

The aid was not distributed sooner due to Comelec’s ban on spending public funds for 45 days before the May 9 elections, from March 25 to May 8. /rcg
